DesignCAD 3D MAX is a versatile, easy-to-use 2D/3D CAD tool that’s perfect for novice designers, but powerful enough to create high-quality designs, models and animations. This latest release now allows users to import and export 3D models to STL file format for rapid prototyping with 3D printers. It’s everything you need to design anything, from simple hobby projects to professional precision drawings.
Choose from our traditional 32-bit version, or install the new 64-bit compatible version, that utilizes expanded computer memory to load, process, and render files of nearly any size.
An intuitive interface and extensive online help makes it easy to get started. Design 2D drawings fast and easy. Create complex 3D shapes by simply extruding from 2D shapes.
Apply a variety of materials, textures, colors, brush styles, shading and light effects to create stunning images. Customize material textures to further enhance the realism.
DesignCAD 3D MAX comes with 600 colorful, editable, and fully texture-mapped architectural 3D symbols you can simply drag-and-drop into your design.
Enjoy user-friendly tools for creating professional level animations and walkthroughs of your finished drawings.
Leverage the power of modern graphics cards to zoom, pan, and rotate your designs up to 30 times faster! Install the 64-bit compatible version for even greater speed.
Share your work in the latest popular file formats like AutoCAD® 2013 - 2016 .DWG and .DXF, .PDF, .WMF and more.
DesignCAD 3D MAX is a general purpose CAD tool for easily creating precise, high-quality 2D designs, 3D models, renders and animations. Design everything from furniture, decks, floor plans and architectural drawings to engineering layouts, electronic schematics, plats, maps, elevations and even toys for hobbies.
Intuitive yet sophisticated editing tools, advanced geometric construction capabilities, drawing short cut keys and complete layer management make 2D drafting a breeze.
Access a full range of powerful 3D modeling primitives, including box, sphere, hemisphere, pyramid, cylinder, cone and torus. Utilize Boolean operations, including solid add, solid subtract, and slice, to shape your 3D parts, now with a new option to limit solid Boolean operations to pre-selected entities only for greater control. Add materials to your model to create presentation ready designs.
Render your 3D models with applied materials or texture maps or use transparency and fogging for added impact.
Choose our traditional 32-bit version, or install the 64-bit compatible version that utilizes today’s expanded computer memory to quickly load, process, and render files of nearly any size. For greater speed, DesignCAD 3D MAX offers an enhanced RedSDK mode which leverages the power of modern graphics cards to zoom, pan, and rotate your designs up to 30 times faster than using the OpenGL mode! RedSDK is available in wireframe mode as well as with shaded and hidden-line 3D views.
Access 600 editable 3D models to quickly drag and drop into your architectural designs. Each colorful, fully texture-mapped symbol can be modified to your exact specification.
DesignCAD utilizes layers that can be independently switched on and off in order for users to have a better visibility of the drawing. For example, if you just need to see the outline of a component, switch off other layers containing center lines, dimensions, etc.
DesignCAD can also lock layers, so that they are visible but not editable, in order to prevent accidental changes to the locked layer. Some features of objects, such as color or linestyle, can also be controlled on a per-layer basis.
DesignCAD 3D Max comes with more than 10,000 2D/3D symbols to quickly drag and drop into your design.
Select two DesignCAD drawings or .BMP images, and Drawing Compare will perform a visual comparison of the two. It’s an invaluable aid when working collaboratively on a project, or when picking up an older project and looking to see the status of updates. Use it to compare a design and an As Built drawing to see where changes have been implemented.
Create stunning animated presentations with a moving view of your 3D model.
Work with the latest AutoCAD® files. Import/Export AutoCAD® files from R12 through 2016 and enjoy excellent compatibility with AutoCAD® layouts and PaperSpace, plus support for AutoCAD® layers, linestyles, views, and blocks in both DXF and DWG file formats. DesignCAD even offers limited support for Architectural Desktop (ADT) objects, which are recognized and exploded to DesignCAD equivalents.
DesignCAD 3D MAX can import, or open, leading CAD file formats including DWG, DXF, vector WMF, HPGL, XYZ, STL, and OBJ. DesignCAD 3D MAX can export or save to DWG, DXF, vector WMF, HPGL, RIB, VRML, WPG and PDF.
DesignCAD also supports several image formats including .BMP, .TIF, .JPG, .TGA, .PCX, .PNG, and .GIF
Use the built-in BasicCAD scripting language, or OLE Automation, or both, to add new tools and enhancements to DesignCAD.
DesignCAD can now be installed as either a 32-bit or 64-bit application. The 32-bit version has always been limited to using 2 GB of RAM, even when running on 64-bit versions of Windows with 4GB or more of RAM. The 64-bit version can access the larger amounts of RAM that are usually available on 64-bit systems, enabling you to create and edit larger drawings than you can with the 32-bit version.
This latest release of DesignCAD 3D MAX is now optimized for 3D printing, allowing users to import and export 3D models to the STL file format, one of the most commonly used file formats for 3D printing.
DesignCAD 3D MAX can now export and import OBJ files. OBJ files are a common means of exchanging 3D models, and can be used by many other CAD and solid- or surface-modeling programs. Note that DesignCAD's OBJ capabilities are limited to geometry only; materials and texture mapping are not supported.
DesignCAD 3D MAX is now able to export drawings to SKP format for use with SketchUp versions 3.0 to 2015.
We have changed the libraries that DesignCAD 3D MAX uses to work with raster image data. As a result of this, AWD, EPS, PCT, PSD, WMF, and WPG files are no longer supported, and GIF support has been added.
DesignCAD 3D MAX version 25 adds a new Edit Group button to the Info Box when group objects are selected. This Group Editor shows the internal structure of the group and any subgroups, and allows you to do some simple reorganization of the contents of the group without having to explode it. Group editing options include:
The Balloon command now allows you to specify either a fixed balloon size or a fixed text size when creating text balloons. Previously only the balloon size could be specified, so that longer text strings would appear much smaller than short ones.
This command, in addition to showing the overall distance, now also shows the separate X, Y and Z components of that distance.
The Hidden Edge and Hidden Edge by Section commands now work on Solid Surface objects.
The Show All Edges command now works on Solid Surface objects as well as other entities. In addition, it can now be set to work only on selected entities; before it would show all edges on everything in the drawing.
The Hide Edges of Coplanar Facets hides the interior edges of a selected Solid Surface object, making it much easier to understand the shape of the object.
The Triangulate Surface command reduces all faces of a Solid Surface object to triangles. This can be helpful when converting the drawing to a different drawing format for use in some other program (OBJ, DWG, DXF, STL, SKP). While DesignCAD allows facets to have any number of edges, some other programs work most reliably with triangular facets.
DWG, DXF, and OBJ exports now have an option to convert any exported Solid Surface entities to triangles.
